Not exactly a character sheet but something akin to it... an all around sound reveal/analysis for my punk funk guy

Les's musical style is a wide range that typically leans heavily into funk metal or punk rock, or both!, although he is quick to get inspired by other genres too. In general he likes music that sounds at least a little droll and unexpected. I hope the selection of albums I compiled can paint you a good idea of it (because I sure as hell don't know what I'm doing!).

He is, first and foremost, a bass player and he's very good at it. Heavy funky slapping and popping is prominent in his music as is usual in funk music in general. He's got an old (ugly) second-hand bass guitar, that he cherishes like it's his baby. He could probably save an get a cooler-looking one for the stage but that in itself is uncool in his book.

He's also not so bad with the trumpet too, doesn't own one though, so he only plays it when he gets a chance. He learned to play it from his uncle Adewale.

Singing on the other hand is not his forte; he doesn't have super impressive vocals plus he's holding himself back. His singing style sounds droll and kind of jaded (often even deadpan and monotone although thought out and not lazy in any way), and closer to speak-singing. Big reason for that is that genuine honest singing makes him feel vulnerable in an uncomfortable way he's not willing to face, and it hints at a possibility for emotional release he very much prefers to not see happen. Y'know, singing is therapeutic and he doesn't want the therapy. 🥲

He typically balances out his singing with sarcastic/dramatic lyrics or unusual storytelling that keep his true thoughts and feelings well encrypted under layers of metaphors and allegories (subconsciously or intentionally) — which funnily enough makes him a very clever lyricist. But he doesn't put any of it down and has no interest in joining Hed and Floyd with writing songs for the band.

His singing VA is John McCrea from Cake, and when I say this I mean from the sound of his singing voice, all the way down to how he delivers his lines and the lyrics themselves. ':) More examples: 1, 2, 3. (I put only two of their albums on the drawing but honestly Cake has so many good Les songs.)

NoMeansNo is a close second when it comes to lyrics, but they're more like vent songs for Les, when you catch him in a weird angry/depressed mood. I also really like that band's prominent use of the bass, it's not very funky but it scratches my Les itch very much.

Butthole Surfers' songs have good Les lyrics too, although those are more "him singing about weird hallucinations while high out of his mind" or when he wants to be shocking for the sake of being shocking. That band is just weird overall, I like the singers southern drawl though. I'm still on board the idea of Les and Hed having a bit of a southern US accent.

Incubus is an amazing band overall but their first two albums are such a good flavor of funk metal and early band experimentality. Their singer is really good in regards to the word intonation I imagine Les having, he's too skilled for Les to keep up with in some parts though. 😅

I think the perfect Les sound would be some kind of chimera of these four bands... or maybe not, maybe that would sound terrible. XD

But still, to get a feel for Les's sound overall you have to give all of the examples below a listen, or at least the ones I put in bold.

Okay, for your rock siblings AU do you think other troll genres have the same amount of sub genres as rock trolls because I was doom scrolling through a lot of the post about rock troll culture and the amount of sub genres was a big topic and this made me wonder do other trolls have as many subgenres as rock or is it treated differently like pop I’m imagining has the least just because of the movies were not shown much diversity of course you have the exceptions like DJ Suki but they seem pretty uniform for the most part so I’m imagining if all the other tribes saw rock troll culture they would be overwhelmed and confused at just a sheer amount of sub genres of rock I can imagine techno has quite a few sub genres as well I’m unsure if it’s to the same extent as rock trolls though Funk trolls I’m imagining has a few but way less than techno or rock. I’m unsure on classical or country. and do the other tribe treat the concept of sub genres differently  from how the rock trolls do. I just wonder if they have a different mentality when it comes to the sub genres.

So Rock in my AU has an absurd amount of subgenres because Rock Trolls are a very individualistic tribe. All tribes have some subgenres, Techno has dubstep and EDM and a few others, Funk has soul and R&B and Hip Hop, Classical has opera, etc etc. Rock, however, has at least 100 different types of subgenres.

Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Metal, Death Metal, Sludge Metal, Emo, Screamo, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Punk, New Wave, Prog Rock, Nu Metal, Heavy Metal, Surf Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Garage Rock, Rock and Roll, Glam Rock, Gothic Rock, Indie Rock... I could go on.

The other tribes do see subgenres differently. Like Prince D views his subgenre as a big part of his identity and as it's own entity. They tend to treat subgenres with a lot of seriousness, meanwhile Rock Trolls are like "Hey I made a new subgenre. I call it Murder Punk. Yeah it's kinda like Murder Metal but I mixed in some punk. Yeah go ahead and do whatever you want with it, I'm already working on another subgenre that I'm gonna call Dust Gothic."

A lot of other tribes will pick a subgenre and stick with it, making it an important part of their identity, but Rock Trolls are encouraged to mess around and have phases, and a lot of Rock Trolls won't stick to one sound but switch up from album to album or song to song.

Pop Trolls don't really have subgenres. They don't make any distinctions between types of Pop because they don't even know there are other types of music. All pop music is just "music" to them which can make it hard to find stuff you like because you're like "I want something exactly like this boy band. Time to search every single band there is!"

Asking you about your ska troll concept! They look so cool and I would love to learn more about them

@shadow-ray4 thank you for asking, genuinely was positive that no one would ask 😅😣 but I am HAPPY to share! To start here are the full refs I've done so far and explain as much of the concept as I've developed in my brain lmaooo (ALL MAJOR DEETS undercut cause its gonna be LONG)

@goldendaydna also helped with this and lowkey a concept we are semi working out since her sona Golden Tempo is an Urbano Troll (a recently named concept lol)

Ska Trolls are Big, Bright, and BOLD. Together, these elements create an energetic, highly danceable, highly vibe-able troll genre. They also explode into confetti and confections when excited or surprised. Dont worry they pop back up as if nothing even happened leaving a pile of candy and crepe paper on the ground. (Ska trolls are super popular with the kids.) They practically live for the music, known for dancing for several days straight with hardly a rhyme or reason to stop.

*Like even the smallest of surprises just make em POP! (Bonus Branch doodle cause why not??)

Adara, my sona, is a 4th Generation Ska Troll (her father being a 3rd Gen while her mama is a punk rock troll) so TECHNICALLY shes Ska-punk, but she still has the appearance of your standard Ska Troll so it's more a music specific.

Her great great grandparents being a reggae leaning funk troll and a rocksteady leaning funk troll who formed The Underground after being seemingly left behind along with other alt/subgenres of the main 6 kingdoms when they split. A place for alternative trolls like herself and her friends could live and PARTY HARD without micro judgments against their music. It's a haven for other trolls who feel they dont quite fit a specific genre or even one at all, but also HELLA secluded from the rest of the Trolls so they look different and SOUND different. (Cave acoustics and all) The surface likely gets trimmers and even earthquakes from their raging parties. (I'm still fleshing this out but I have this piece of "concept art")

*Its literally a bioluminescent shroom town. Like glowing mushroom homes, food, ect- glow worms on the cave ceiling like stars in a night sky. All the various alternative genre of trolls have like a glowy eye thing that allows them to just see naturally in the dark too-

Obviously I took most inspo from pinatas, party/confetti poppers, and the sorts mainly because the funk trolls poop...well. baked goods and I wanted to play off that but lean into the crazy evolution the trolls have canonically in the universe that foam at the mouth for 👀 🤲 But I wanted to make sure her colors and patterns gave off not just Funk influence, but also micro subculture influences that are within The Underground. (This including but not not limited to, how closely Ska Trolls were to the Urbano Trolls communities within The Underground)

*Queen Essence I love yuuuu

They are bigger than the average Funk troll and have very similar features to them, but texture and color wise are very different. They much more vibrant and staturated. Giving a mix of felt and crepe paper. They have tails as sortve as an evolutionary trait but also it gives maximum party mode as it can hold objects and act as an extra hand. Their ears are also longer and slimmer, making it harder for them to lift or perk up so they stay droopy unlike their funk counterparts. They are all naturals at brass instruments (mainly trumpet) and ALWAYS have a hop in their step.

okay, we know how Branch found the feral things and started a grey troll village in your nomads au. And how Creek ended up in the village. BUT, how did the rest of the occupants come to be? Did they willing leave their kingdoms? Were they abandoned? Did they get lost and lose hope of anyone ever coming for them before they met the feral creatures and the others? I really wanna know some backstories.

Oooooo-This is a tough one.

Everyone in the village has there own story for why there their. These are a few examples I thought up of how they got there.

Pop: There are very few Pop trolls in the grey village (mostly due to their toxic positivity of always looking on the bright side for normal Pop trolls ) they basically were separated from the main tribe and didn’t find the putt putt trolls on there way out when escaping. Soon they lost all hope of finding the tribe and went to live in the wood (it went reeeeaaallly bad) a few were eaten and the rest went grey, they were kinda just wandering around for a few years till the (very few) nomads and feral (trolls?) showed up. They were taken in and found Branch there too. The grey pop trolls also were told were the village was but they didn’t go back because they were too ashamed about being grey.

Funk: There is a group of funk trolls in the village who all came in at the same time. They were researchers who were left behind by vibe city and had no hope of getting back to the always moving ship, so they went grey and were later found by a small hunting team and Branch while trying to create some traps to keep them safe (there are more funk trolls I’m just showing off random examples of how trolls got here)

Classical: There are a few classical trolls who can’t fly in the village due to wing injuries. The injuries go from difficult to stay in the air, to broken beyond repair, and looking at how there body is shaped (they have the bodies of LITERAL babies can they walk?) I don’t think it’s easy for them to get around since symphony vill is probably mostly made to fly around. It got too difficult for them and just left going grey in the process. 

Techno: There once was a dead techno troll who had some troll eggs with them beached on a nearby river to the village, they took in the techno eggs (The eggs HAVE to look like fish eggs right.. RIGHT?!) the trolling when they hatched just sorta knew there mother was gone and were born grey. they grew up in the village which didn’t…really help them get better and just sorta caused them more issues.(there have been a few lost techno trolls who had damaged fins to the point of not even being able to go back)

Rock: A lot more rock trolls live in the village then the other genres, mostly cause of their more feral and aggressive personalities (they look like biters) so some just had bad experiences in there lives that it just became too much and they just ended up Leaving volcano rock city. There is a rock troll who can’t hear in the village, and due to his deafness he felt like a freak to troll kind since he couldn’t even listen to music (which is kinda a big deal) he left and turned grey wandering the woods until he was found by some feral(trolls?) who have done the same routine of taking in grey trolls a lot at that point.

Country: There aren’t to many country (I feel like it would be harder for them to turn grey since they show how sad it can get in Lonesome flats) but the some who do show up have tons of kids, a while back a couple of country trolls were deemed criminals for liking another genre of music and playing it too loud, to which they were promptly kicked out of town, who later turned grey from getting forced to leave there only home. They were found fighting predators by a hunting team. (this was way before world tour so a lot less tolerance for other music)

Subgenres: There are some subgenre groups running around, like indie trolls, steam punk trolls, some grunge too (and many more) they usually are abandoned or just turn grey from living a isolated lonely life or some other reason like family was killed or taken by huge predators or what not.

Honestly most of them stay grey or go darker in color because they live in the village. It isn’t really going out of its way to help them get their color back but is really just a home for them. Growing up there influences many of the kids born there to turn grey or go grey later in their lives.

There are many other reasons why any of the trolls would be here these are just random scenariosthat I thought up to show as examples

How is princess diva scared of lunar and bard?

For obvious reason… Barb did attacked Diva’s kingdom… and did imprisoned her, her family, her newly reunited nephews…. And lastly her whole subjects.

Princess Diva was no fighter by any means… yet is willing to help with what she thought at first was a harmless thing… a harmless disagreement between the Funk and Rock kingdoms…. But when Barb invades Funk…. It was a big real world shock for Diva to take in.

Even after Barb’s redemption and her arch of trying to be better than when she was first introduced to the other kingdoms… Diva’s still nervous and afraid of Barb…. Like she’s not used to seeing a troll filled with scars… and filled with a fighting aurora or something to that accord.

With Branch/Lunar…. All she did see from him was this paladin knight in terrible conditions… and she remembered seeing his haunting eyes… when she met him was when similar to how the cannon event happens in the movie…. With a twist.

Branch and his army helped the country folk fought off Barb’s invading troops…. And Branch went out his way to warn or ask the neighboring kingdom to help retaliate…. So he was sorta battered and bloodied.

Rock is aggressive at best.. and they have many generas within it… like punk, metal, etc…. So they have a slight advantage at beating the Classical and Country kingdoms…. A few of the rock trolls have wings of their own and kinda counter attacked the Classicals… but they weren’t as calculating as Branch when attacking so his slight edge was to find a way to get more help… since the tide was turning into enemy favor than his…. And when he was transformed into a zombie… one that not even Barb could control…. Terrified Diva to no ends…. Cause the guy made a wake of mass destruction.

The second time seeing him… Diva felt very weary around him….. she does find him charming and impressive… but highly elusive at best.

He doesn’t smile… nor show any emotion… always reserve and kept quiet to himself… but those eyes of his are always observing and it scares her

Hello!

Now about what happened between the Division and World Tour: There's a bit of a headcanon by some authors (which includes me as you know) that Rock's been trying to assimilate the rest of Trollkind since the Division but hasn't gone after the major Tribes. Instead, it's gone after the Subgenre Tribes, conquering them and destroying much of their music and culture, forcing the survivors to work for them to keep their tribes afloat.

It would explain why the only Bounty Hunters and Subgenre Trolls we see work for Rock and why they're so fearful of losing their music.

And also the lack of other Rock Trolls (besides Hard Rock) shown onscreen is a bit alarming, given that it's been...centuries at least since the Division. Surely, there would've been plenty of time for other genres of Rock to develop.

Unless, of course, Rock's leaders have been actively suppressing development of other music for a long time.

(There were supposed to be Punk Rock Trolls in the movie at one point BTW but I'm not sure if they exist in-universe)

Sorry for my essay for a first ask if it bothers you. It's just a interesting topic for me.

Hi, no worries! I love long essays for asks. It gives me lots of materials to think about.

First, that headcanon is really interesting. I imagine headcanon-wise, the Rock Trolls were one of the trolls tribes alongside Funk that were most affected by Pop trying to take their music. Perhaps they’re even the ones who played a major role in defeating the Pop and managing to snatch the five strings and divide into isolation. They are one of the most battle-ready trolls of the tribes, second only to either Country and Funk. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t without losses and scars. It probably led them in fear of falling, they tried to assimilate other subgenre tribes into their music to both rebuild their tribe and their twisted way in protecting the trolls. Though I imagine it had to have been done by the next generations of the Rock Royals because I can’t see the Rock Elder doing such things after personally experiencing the Pop Trolls tried to do the same thing their future generations will end up doing. At the same time, they might have planted a bit of seed by emphasizing how the Pop Trolls has almost destroyed music and creating fear and anger to build in resisting against being assimilated again. Not knowing they’ll be repeating the same thing the Pop Trolls have done.

Honestly, it is strange how they refer to themselves as the Hard Rock Trolls specifically. There was even an episode of Trollstopia where calling a Rock Troll ‘Soft Rock’ as a derogatory term, even though it can be a part of the Rock Trolls (though considering soft rock relates to pop music and their disdain to the tribe, I can see why). I imagine it was probably a belief that was built upon over the years that Hard Rock Trolls are the strongest, and encompasses what Rock should be. So other genres are either assimilated into Hard Rock or considered ‘lower class’ and are overshadowed by the Hard Rock genre.

Hi! I really like your Trolls : World Tour Au and I have some questions about it (ngl I have no idea if this leads into the spoiler area for the fanfic (also you don't have to answer all of them) 1. Will the brothers find out about Branch turning grey (or their Grandma dying) if so, how do they react? (I have a feeling that they've going to question about the dull colors on Branch but who knows) 2. When it came to the punk trolls shooting out Poppy and Branch out of their ship (for safety from the Rock Trolls), will the others be there with the duo? And if so, will they go with Poppy or Branch? 3. (Don't have to answer!!) When it came to Poppy destroying the guitar, how will the 4 react to that? 4. (Also don't have to answer!!) How would our new versions of BroZone react to the OG Trolls pulling off the perfect harmony?

HI HIII i will answer these as best i can :]

1. i can tell you at least some of them will at some point! as of right now i’ve only prewritten up to lonesome flats so i’m not sure how many of the brothers will have that revelation, but i will try to touch on it because i feel like a lot of us in the fandom definitely wanted to see more of a reaction than just clay’s one line about grandma in TBT

2. yes they’ll be there! the idea is that the group is collecting more of the brothers as the movie goes on, sorta like how they do in band together, so when they run into the funk trolls it’ll be clay, floyd and bruce at that point with branch and poppy

3. can’t say much, but jd’s reaction will probably be more drastic than the other bros :]

4. they’d think the OG bros pulling it off would be very cool!! i think they’d be worried for poor floyd though haha. i mean in TBT he’s getting getting drained to death but in BWT he’s literally just a cowboy haha

Did Les and Hed know either of their fathers?

Yes, they lived with both actually, and they both refer(red) to both of their fathers as "dad" (well, hed's father was daddy).

They lived with Hed's dad and their mom in a small village/town in the rock kingdom since Les was basically still a baby and till he was around 8 or 9 when their mom died (Hed then being 4 or 5). Soon after that Les ran away and took Hed with him, because Hed's dad was very abusive toward him and it only got worse when Les grew to the height and size of an adult rock troll at around 8 years old. Les had a very hard time growing up in the rock kingdom in general, he was the only mixed genre troll where they lived and no one ever treated him age-appropriate because of his size, even unintentionally. Don't even get me started on the bigotry. :(

So then Les ran away with Hed to go find his biological dad, because surely his real dad who is also a funk troll like him would like him more. (Somehow they managed to find him with the help of one old photo Les had of him.) It turned out that wasn't the case and Les quickly realized that the funk trolls didn't consider him as one of their own either. But his dad still (reluctantly) decided to take them in if they stayed out of the way. And that's where they grew up and lived (in Vibe City) until not that long before they meet Floyd. It was a very strange and not at all child friendly environment because Les's dad lives in a cramped apartment with a bunch of stoner roommates and with different trolls coming and leaving all the time, so their home was more a hangout den for a bunch of washed up adults than an actual home...

The two rock trolls' first month there; Les was learning how to play the bass and he got super into it and he broke into song which then ended up with a punk rock scream, Hed heard it and started screaming all over the apartment (normal and healthy behavior for many rock troll kids):

Floyd also had the misfortune of meeting both of them (Les's dad intentionally and Hed's dad by chance). It's an understatement if I say he despises them

imagine if it goes like that. anyways, PEGGY dropped a new album on the 1ST OF AUGUST. 41 minutes of this album are filled with AGRESSIVE LYRICISM, and a stronger PUNK aspect to the 34-YEAR-OLD NEWYORKIAN RAPPER's CIGNATURE PRODUCTION. his WRITING is EMOTIONALLY DYNAMIC and his music is LUSCIOUS in terms of VARIETY.

LYRICISM

PEGGY is well-known for his CREATIVE BARS, and he kept that in his new album. he's like TAKING SHOTS at everything like a NBA player on a court (isn't his whole NBA persona DILLON BROOKS BUT WORSE? makes sense to me at least). there a lot of mention of RELIGION and FAITH in the album overall, in fact the title of the album comes from HOLY BIBLE VERSE JOHN 10:17-18. this is what i love about JPEGMAFIA's MUSIC ARTISTRY.

I RECOVERED FROM THIS, however, shows a TIRED PEGGY in the recording studio (no more BEEFING!) as he talks about PAST RELATIONSHIPS and the PAIN he had to dealt with.

JPEGMAFIA is more AMBITOUS in I LAY MY LIFE FOR YOU than ever. JPEGMAFIA is usually the only PRODUCER of his music, so he's a really INDEPENDENT person, and he's also a really AMAZINGA producer too, i'm being serious. his style is EXPERIMENTAL, SAMPLE-DRIVEN, and over all CREATIVE and INTERESTING. every songs on this new album is BANGERS TO BANGERS because the production felt more FLEXIBLE and CONSISTENT throughout. in JANUARY of 2024, i visited BRAZIL and had experienced the BRAZILIAN FUNK genre, to me the most INTERESTING DJ-PERFORMED GENRE. he took the CORE FEATURES of this genre and INCOPORATED his own SPICE to it.

I SCREAM THIS IN THE MIRROR BEFORE I INTERACT WITH EVERYONE has some insane BEAT SWITCHES, like what do you mean we need a SHRILLEX ass beat on your RAPPING? alright… (also can we have more of this i love it)

I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU is JPEGMAFIA's STRONGEST and most DYNAMIC album to date. it's really WELL-MADE, and he managed to keep a BALANCE in his EXPERIMENTALISM approach so even the HOES can bop to it (contrary to the previous album). JPEGMAFIA is the most CREATIVE artist i have ever seen in the UNDERGROUND RAPPING SCENE.

Whenever I go into some Dreamworks Trolls fan art or fan fics, there's always one person who is surprised that Trolls has a fandom. Yes, we do have one. It's small but enough to feed us. And it's only getting bigger. Why is there a fandom? How is this fandom still going?

Least Problematic Fandom

"But we're not all the same........ Denying our differences is denying who we really are."

The 2nd film had a really deep message for a movie aimed at babies. Going against "we're all the same" message. And telling instead that differences do matter, our culture matters, our lives matter, the way we look matters and that's beautiful. When we accept that we're different and not forcing anything on each other, we can live in harmony. This lesson is what the fandom is built on.

The moment someone takes a look into this fandom, we welcome them with cupcakes, sweets, and warm hugs. The entire fandom is the least problematic one I've ever been in. Never been in a fight, always complimenting each other and just being at peace. We never had ship wars as far as I know. We're all just having fun by putting every character with every character on a ship. I've seen people who are Christians in the fandom have zero problems with the LGBT+ community. Yes, we exist, and we're in the Trolls fandom for some reason. 😂 No one ever fought on what color skin we made the Trolls when we humanized them. Mostly because if anyone drew the Funk Trolls as white, we just walked past them without giving them attention. Or just point out that they are black coded, and that's it.

It's just peaceful here in this fandom. This fandom really helped me out mentally and emotionally. Because a lot of people in the fandom also faced some form of abuse or depression. We saw the 1st film, and it just felt like a warm hug while someone sung a lullaby to calm us down.

In summery, the fandom is filled with people who understand pain and empathy. The franchise created a safe zone for us to heal and relax.

Artists

The moment an artist takes a look in here, they get hypnotized by all the color pallets they can use. You can be pastel like the Pop Trolls. Emo, goth, punk with the Rock Trolls. Play with lighting with the Tech Trolls. Ect. All the cutesy and marshmallow like characters they can create. Or turn into some darker AU. The anatomy is too cute to not try to mimic or create in your own style. The world building and the endless number of worlds that they can create. You can create your own kingdom based on your favorite type of music. You can create the way your troll/charaters will look like based on your music. If you want to practice on mirrors and reflective surfaces, you have the Funk Kingdom to draw. Want to do glitter? The desert is pure glitter for sand. The Country Trolls live in a town made of yarn. The pop trolls have a waterfall made of streamers. This is endless creativity for artists. I've seen artists come into our fandom and use the characters and world as practice before moving on to the next fandom. But they always come back for more practice or just to hang out.

Also, the thought of making a troll mixed in with different tribes is pretty cool. As in, what if a Rock Troll and Classical troll had a kid? Goth like angle? A little punk looking guy with angelic and glittery wings?

Writing

I can relate to this one. Again, the world building is endless. You can create your own kingdom based on your favorite music. You can create your own rules, your citizens' behavior, and how this kingdom works. The fun part is creating your own royal family.

But the AUs are where it's at. I created a lot of Fairytale AUs as a teen using the characters because they just worked well. My very first was a Tangled AU with Poppy as Rupunzel and Branch as Flynn. I made the nose joke work by making the kingdom mess up Branches colors. An inside joke with in the fandom. The franchise just gives off a lot of fairytale vibes.

When the 1st film came out, the characters each had their own story. Which was cool and gave writers ideas on what to write. And I loved to humanize them because I liked the thought of Fuzzbert being def or mute because he can't talk clearly as a troll.

Not to mention, I can create an AU where the Trolls or humanized versions of them live in a world where segregation is an issue. Which 100% fits the franchise because in the 2nd film, every tribe is supposed to be a different culture. In other words, a different race. And the Trolls would separate themselves out of fear that the Pop tribe would try to colonize them and take away their culture.

There are just a lot of concepts you can use in this fandom.

Music

Let's keep this short because this post is long enough. People have openly said they don't like the movies, but they still watch it for the music. Seriously, listen to the soundtracks. They have musical artists, new ones like K-pop bands, and legends like Mary Jane Blige. The songs have a deeper meaning when you watch the film, too. Baiscally, candy for the ears.

Aesthetic

Lastly, people just like it for eye candy. The 80s aesthetic I'm the 1st film appealed to a lot. And the 2nd movie introduced more by bringing in Rock Trolls and their darker and punk like aesthetic. People fell in love with the Tech Trolls for their designs and the fact they live in an underwater kingdom that glows. It's just pure eye candy and pleasing to look at.

So yeah!

These are the reasons why our fandom is a thing and still thriving. We're super excited for the 3rd film and can't wait for more world building and new characters.

Well, a design always has to give a good idea of ​​who the character is. Like, if the character is the messy type, messy or sloppy hair and clothes would be a great choice!

Don't forget to make your characters different, give them different poses and shapes, this gives them a lot of personality.

I'm going to use an example that may seem silly, but I like character design in the Trolls franchise!

Pop Trolls are colorful, they come in different sizes and colors that create a happy and imaginative idea for them, which works because they are super happy and festive! Most of them have pastel colors in their color palette. Bright, vibrant colors are their vibe and represent their personality very well.

Rock trolls have a punk and rebellious style, and compared to pop trolls they have more desaturated and darker colors.

funk trolls are my favorites, they are super vibrant and different, super inspired by the 80s style as well as being heavily black-coded. Their designs are very different, having an appearance more similar to a giraffe.

Designs can be based on basic aesthetics and amplified with character.

So for me, I would say that designs can be whatever you want, as long as it makes sense in the universe and for the character.

and sorry to have talked about Trolls, but I just love the art direction of this franchise! Media that awakens my inner child always makes me happy, and this franchise is full of crazy things as if it came out of the imagination of a super creative child who loves music!
